FAQs

What is Zakat?
Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam, and it is the duty of every Muslim to give Zakat. In simple terms, Zakat is the act of giving a set percentage of one’s wealth to charity.

All able Muslims (those who meet the requirement of zakat as dependent upon nisab and hawl—see below) are required to contribute a fixed portion of their wealth – 2.5% of savings — to help those in need.

Your Zakat is calculated based off the net assets you have at the end of a one-year period. To calculate how much Zakat you owe, you can use our calculator form.
What are the conditions for Zakat?

There are a number of conditions that must be met in order for a person to be eligible for Zakat. These conditions include having wealth that is above a certain threshold, and using that wealth for good purposes.

Who is eligible for Zakat?

The people who are most commonly eligible for Zakat are the poor and the needy. However, there are a number of other groups of people who can also receive Zakat.

Zakat (HADITH)
